Have a Disney's Tangled party that is centered around hair just like the movie. When your little guests arrive have cutouts of the Tangled characters made from poster board taped to the walls. Also, make a cutout of the tower Rapunzel was in and tape it to a wall. Have hair styling stations set up complete with pastel hair bows, combs, ribbons, and headbands. Adults should supervise the styling sessions. Each child should end up with several bows, ribbons, combs and headbands to take home as party favors. Currently audiences of all ages are enjoying Disney’s Tangled, a 3-D fantasy story that offers comedy and fantasy in equal measure. Younger viewers, however, may not realize the long and rich history behind this tale.

Disney’s Tangled, in fact, finds its roots in the story “Rapunzel” by the Brothers Grimm, first published in 1812. In the original version, Rapunzel is the daughter of common people who make a tragic mistake. Answering his wife’s pregnancy-driven craving for a Rapunzel plant (why couldn’t she have settled for pickles and ice cream?:), a man trespasses on a witch’s property in an effort to attain samples of the prized plant. Upon being captured, the witch forces him to most literally hand over his first-born child. Ultimately the witch imprisons the child, the beautiful Rapunzel, in a tall tower; a tower that only can be accessed when Rapunzel ‘lets her hair down’--when she drops the immeasurable length of her gorgeous blonde hair from the tower window. Eventually she is rescued by a dashing prince, and the two live happily ever after. In Disney’s Tangled, by contrast, Rapunzel is a princess blessed by the power of a mystical flower; a floral gem that promises eternal youth. A witch kidnaps and imprisons the princess, who eventually is visited by a handsome thief, who she in turn imprisons (with the help of all that hair) until he promises to set her free. And then, well, we can’t spoil the movie but you probably can guess the rest.:)
